Social
Care & HealthSocial Services Criminal Justice Legislation,
principally the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 and the Criminal
Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995, places a duty on Scottish local authorities
to provide social work services in the criminal justice system. What
services are provided? - the supervision of offenders in the community
who are sentenced by Courts
- the supervision of offenders in the community
who have been released from prison on statutory order or licences;
- the
provision of social work reports requested by Courts, Parole Board and Procurators
Fiscal;
- the provision of voluntary post-release assistance to prisoners
and their families;
- the provision of a social work service to Courts,
and to those involved in Court proceedings;
- the provision of a social
work service to those individuals given an alternative to prosecution;
- the
provision of support to the victims of crime.
